Join us on a trip down memory lane. Beginning this month and each month through July 2023 the past 50 years of theater at Four County Players in Barboursville will be highlighted in 5– year segments. The old high school auditorium has seen many changes over the years. The beginnings were humble with a start up of $70.00 and a desire to bring live theater to the counties of Albemarle, Green, Louisa, and Orange. For a more detailed description of the theater’s history, please visit the history page. The founders, Bill Thomas of Charlottesville and Lillian Morse of Barboursville, brought their vision and combined theatrical experiences to begin this wonderful journey now 50 years strong.
Goals set in the beginning continue today. These goals include providing opportunity for workshops; identifying and nurturing individual talents; providing seasonal presentations and educational programs; and setting high standards for quality presentations. Four County Players achieves these goals through the efforts of dedicated volunteers as well as the support of members and sponsors.
The first season produced the plays The Stingy Mr. Pennypincher and The Little Foxes. Additionally, there were workshops, an art show, and a performance in conjunction with the Orange Choral Society. Children’s plays included casting local youth talent and were produced with simple staging so they could be performed at local schools or other locations.
This presentation takes you through the first 5 seasons of plays. Many of the photographs are from rehearsals. Included are covers from programs and news clippings. Four County Players had a successful start and is still going strong. Enjoy Seasons 1-5.
The second presentation highlights the many other activities undertaken by Four County Players as they navigated through the first five years. You will see the simplicity of the children’s shows which would be performed in the main theater as well as at local schools. Please note the historical re-enactments highlighting some of the area’s history. Enjoy viewing a busy organization during its infant years.
